Create a Chinese Reading Handout with Pinyin
Use one short text to check character counts, add pinyin, and review the final reading material. Use the original text and character-by-character reading draft as a starting point for your lesson.
1. Start with the text and the right count
Paste these three lines into eTeste, keeping the two line breaks and adding no extra whitespace at the end. Compare the count fields before editing your handout.
我们在学校读书。
下课后,大家一起听音乐。
周末,我们去公园看花。The text also has 5 punctuation marks and no English words. The two line breaks count as whitespace: 33 characters including whitespace, or 31 without it. Use the field your assignment requires.
2. Add pinyin, then check the readings
In ZhuanPinyin, choose Local conversion and tone marks. Use this character-by-character reading draft as a reference; a teacher or editor should still proofread it before use.
下课后,大家一起听音乐。
周末,我们去公园看花。
Check 乐 in 音乐: it is yuè. In 一起, 一 is shown with the spoken tone change as yì qǐ; its dictionary tone in isolation is yī. The spacing here supports character-by-character reading, rather than demonstrating all pinyin word-spacing rules.
Use the two tools in sequence
Check text and counts
In eTeste, compare Chinese characters and counts with or without whitespace. Its interface uses Simplified or Traditional Chinese. If you edit the source, use that version in the next step.
Convert and review
Paste the same text into ZhuanPinyin and use local conversion. Check characters with several readings, then select the display format for your class.
Check the pasted handout
Use the existing plain-pinyin or formatted-copy options. After pasting into your document editor, check tone marks, line breaks, and font sizes before sharing it.
Before you share or print
- Compare characters, punctuation, and paragraphs with the source: nothing should be missing or added.
- Check ambiguous readings in context; verify personal and place names separately.
- Check that pinyin still aligns with the characters and that line breaks survived pasting.
- Confirm that the title, count requirement, and text size suit this lesson.
